Things To Know

Climate: Seasons in South America are the opposite of North America's. However, Central Paraguay, including Asunción, features a hot, subtropical climate with temperatures generally ranging from the upper 50s°F to low 90s°F throughout the year. Summers (Oct–Mar) are hot and muggy, often exceeding 90s°F daily, while winters (May–Aug) are short and comfortable, with highs around 70-80s°F and lows in the upper 50s°F.

Paraguayan Language: Guaraní is the primary native and indigenous language of Paraguay, spoken by over 90% of the population, including non-indigenous people. It is a co-official language alongside Spanish, making Paraguay unique in Latin America for having a widely spoken indigenous language.

Currency: Paraguay accepts the exchange of the US Dollars and the official currency is the Paraguayan Guarani (PYG); however, be cautious with large bills (like $100) - they have to be as pristine as possible when exchanging, and use official exchange points due to counterfeits. The condition of the paper bill does affect the value of a US to PTG exchange. As of MAR 2026, One US Dollar was equal to 6391.00 Guaranis (PYG).
